SUPER MENU READMESM.DOC VERSION 14 WIN Copyright 1-28-97 SEA Thank you for your purchase --- Ted Schaefer Schaefer Enterprises and Associates
This document contains changes to commands and documentation the occurred after printing of the manual. This file has been copied to:
You can print it from Wordpad (Win95/NT4) or Word 6 or higher. PRINT NOW!There are certain things you MUST do before SUPER MENU will work:STEP ONE: Use the AutoCAD PREFERENCES command, Files tab to add the SUPER MENU support directory to the AutoCAD search path. See below. Notice that the "Move Up" button was used to place C:\sm14\support as the first directory in the search paths. SUPER MENU makes use of bonus AutoLISP routines. So, highlighted in blue you see the path to the bonus directory which is added during the AutoCAD installation. Here is the Preferences dialog:
STEP TWO: Use the MENU command to load SUPER MENU for the
first time. to "Menu Template (*.mnu)", not the default MNS or MNC. The file type setting is in the lower left hand corner of the MENU dialog box. A typical main SM menu file is highlighted as an example below in the Menu dialog box.
STEP THREE: If you have downloaded SM and wish to get started immediately with your digitizer, before the arrival of the color printed overlay, just plot out the black-and-white drawing found typically in: C:\sm14\dwg\sm-ovl, C:\sm14\dwg\Arch-ovl, or C:\sm14\dwg\3D-ovl STEP FOUR: If you are using a digitizer, first make sure that it is not operating as the system pointing device or mouse emulation. Then use the TABLET command to align the menu squares. Use the TABLET command, CFG to register the overlay to the digitizer.
Note: If you are having troubles, first make sure the AutoCAD template is working. Then use the MENU command to load SUPER MENU. STEP FIVE: Install the Acrobat reader in order to view and print the SUPER MENU manual. You will find the reader on the CD or it can be downloaded from www.adobe.com. STEP SIX: If you have customized a SAM type symbol libary, typically in C:\SYM you have two choices: 1) You can change the SM-DIRS.LSP file, SM-SYM-LOC variable to point to your library. You can use either a text editor or MED to modify SM-DIRS.LSP. Then you must re-run from the pull downs: "Files/Drawing Utilities/SM Reg App." with your SAM registration code. 2) You can move it under the SM14 directory structure, replacing the contents of C:\SM14\SYM. Trouble Shooting Your Installation: 1) Remember after making changes in the Preferences dialog, you have to restart
AutoCAD. Here is a test that will tell if the changes to Preferences are correct. In AutoCAD, at the Command: prompt, type: Notice that C:\\sm14\\support is the first path in the group. (in the Preferences dialog box, you only need a single "\")2) Is it possible that you moved directories after installation. If so, then there is a file in C:\\sm14\\support, SM-DIRS.LSP that will be incorrect. Here is a copy of that file in a default installation: (setq sm-sup-loc "C:\\SM14\\SUPPORT\\") (setq sm-local "C:\\SM14\\") (setq sm-lsp-loc "C:\\SM14\\LISP\\") (setq sm-arx-loc "C:\\SM14\\ARX\\") (setq sm-ads-loc "C:\\SM14\\ADS\\") (setq sm-abc-loc "C:\\SM14\\ABC\\") (setq sm-htm-loc "C:\\SM14\\HTML\\") (setq sm-vba-loc "C:\\SM14\\VBA\\") (setq sm-dat-loc "C:\\SM14\\DAT\\") (setq sm-dwg-loc "C:\\SM14\\DWG\\") (setq sm-dcl-loc "C:\\SM14\\DCL\\") (setq sm-sym-loc "C:\\SM14\\sym\\") (setq sm-sym-loc "C:\\SM14\\sym\\") (setq sm-arc-loc "C:\\SM14\\ARCH\\") (setq sm-mdo-loc "C:\\SM14\\MDO\\") (setq sm-3d-loc "C:\\SM14\\3D\\") 3) Finally, you may want to try a reinstall taking the the default options. Other SM Options After trying the SUPER MENU base option, we hope you will consider these other SM options:
SEA moves business to the Web at: Web: www.schaeferea.com There are many reasons to visit: 1 - A great way to communicate with SEA. The web and email have become the primary tools for business at SEA. We generally respond to email twice a day. And, while we try to return phone calls the same day, typically our phone our unmanned. We understand that this may introduce a 24 hour delay when you need an immediate answer - for this we apologize. Contact SEA and Tech Support: Web: Email: Contact SEA Mail: Schaefer Enterprises & Associates 17123 Barryknoll Way Granger, IN 46530 R12 Support Discontinued: It has been our long standing policy to only support the current version of software and the previous version. With this release of SUPER MENU for R14 we have stopped supporting SUPER MENU for R12 although we will continue to sell it to existing customers. Documentation: SUPER MENU is no longer supplied with a printed manual. The sole documentation is in 2 forms: 1) On-line help To use on-line help for Super Menu, just start the command and type '? (the apostrophe makes it transparent). Otherwise you just use help from the Help pull down menu or the Help button in tablet area 4 on the digitizer, [T4-6-7]. SM14-MAN.PDF is the printed manual in Adobe Acrobat's Portable Document Format (PDF). You can view this on-line and print out what you need. It is complete with sections for all SM options. With a hyperlinked table of contents and full text search, it is faster than the printed manual. For instance you could search for "T4-5-6" to find out about SM-ID, or just search directly search for a topic like bearings. To use SM14-MAN.PDF you will need version 3 or higher of the Adobe Acrobat reader. It is available at www.adobe.com or on the SUPER MENU CD.New and Undocumented: From the pull down Help menu pick "What's new for SM14". Or, pick T1-A-4 on the digitizer. Text Editor and Other Shareware: If you use shareware we recommend that you compensate the Author! At SEA we have been experimenting with Textpad a shareware editor that you can download from www.textpad.com. It is a great replacement for Notepad. We have put a copy on the CD under shareware. Once it is installed, you can use our MED command to activate it as the main editor for your SUPER MENU customization work.We have also included some other useful shareware, including MS Internet Explorer 4.01. Enjoy. SUPER MENU Location and networking: You can move SUPER MENU directories after they are installed.. Only a person experienced with AutoCAD details should try this. In the SUPER MENU support directory, SM-DIRS.LSP maintains directory locations. If you move the SM's support directory, you must also change the location using AutoCAD's PREFERENCES command as discussed in STEP ONE above. If SM-DIRS.LSP is shared on a network, then SM-LOCAL must be the same on each user's machine. C:\SMLOCAL contains files that change and are individualized for each user. Thus, each user must have a local directory. Uninstall: Just delete the SM directories nothing is installed in the AutoCAD filing system. Be sure to change or remove the reference in the ACAD path using AutoCAD's PREFERENCES command as discussed in STEP ONE above.WE NEED YOUR HELP While we have done a lot of testing and feel that we have made good programming choices, we need your input went you run into a problem or: a) When you feel a command should work differently We hope it is obvious that the above changes are responses to your email, faxes and calls. We encourage your suggestions and bug reports. We want SUPER MENU to live up to its name. - Ted Schaefer |
