Problem
AutoCAD R13 installations that are configured to use the Wintab digitiser driver provided by Autodesk have the potential to exhibit poor tracking performance on some fast Pentium machines (such as 120Mhz or faster).
Symptoms of poor performance include:
Complete failure of the cursor Slow performance of the cursor Jumpy or sluggish movement of crosshairs across the screen
Solutions
There are several solutions available depending on what type of environment AutoCAD is operating in.
Updated drivers
Contact your digitiser vendor to determine if an updated version of the Wintab digitiser driver is available. Old versions of Wintab drivers have been know to cause cursor performance problems in AutoCAD. Installing the latest version of the driver may cure this.
3rd Party digitizer driver
It is possible to use a 3rd party driver that supports a wide range of digitizers. Please consult your AutoCAD Resource Guide, "Peripherals" section under "Input Devices" for a listing of companies that are partnered with Autodesk, or search the Internet or WWW for Digitiser Driver manufacturers. Some of these drivers are available for free for a limited trial basis.
Note: Although Autodesk cannot recommend specific driver manufacturers, many of our customers have reported that Digitizer Technology, listed in the AutoCAD Resource guide, provides a Virtual Tablet driver that overcomes many of these performance problems.
